The virtual rail system would provide cities with a more economical option to building traditional rail systems. The current cost of building subways in China is around RMB400 million to RMB700 million per kilometer, while steel rail tram systems cost around RMB150 million to RMB200 million per kilometer. Deploying the virtual rail systems will cost around one fifth the price of railed trams, the report said.
